Mom's the word.

Randomness about the randomness that is my life. I'm a mom. I'm an animal activist who hates PETA. I'm a teacher and a student. I'm an almost reformed fanatical poptart junkie. I'm all things musical and soft to the touch.

Mommy Question:

Yesterday, Jude started saying the word “bye” in addition to his hand waving. It’s so cute, but I can’t believe he is getting to be such a big boy. Before long, he’ll lose that Buddha belly, and begin to look like a legit toddler.

It seems as if J has advanced leaps and bounds over the last month. His comprehension has skyrocketed. He amazes me every single day. Even if he can’t say the words yet, he is able to tell me exactly what he wants 99% of the time. He’s begun putting himself to sleep more often than not (something he’s struggled with at home), and I can tell that we’re really getting to the “fun stuff” when it comes to his development. I spend my time ecstatic to see what comes next.

I do have a Mommy Question though, for those of you who have older kids. Jude is VERY interested in feeding himself these days. Sometimes, he refuses to eat unless he can hold the spoon and “feed” himself. However, he doesn’t quite have the control of the spoon down, which makes for a messy feeding and J not getting much into his mouth. I’ve found myself hesitant to allow him to have his own spoon because I want him to A) actually EAT, and B) not need a bath afterwards (along with the rest of the house). My question is—at what age did your kids start using utensils? How did you teach them to use spoons, etc? How can I encourage this act without wasting an entire meal? I don’t want to hold him back from this important step, but I feel like that’s what I might be doing!
